Yufei Zhang: “A longitudinal study of prosodic convergence in psychotherapy sessions for people with depression, and its potential clinical application”

In Students by General Account

My PhD research focuses on the relationship between speech patterns and depression. I am conducting a longitudinal study to analyze how the vocal prosody (features like intonation, rate, and pauses) of both patients and therapists changes during psychotherapy sessions.

A key focus is “prosodic convergence,” or how closely the speakers’ speech styles align, which may relate to the strength of their therapeutic alliance. By tracking these vocal changes alongside standard clinical measures of depression , my research aims to identify objective, speech-based biomarkers for depression severity.
