Julia Guy: “Changing the Tracks: Investigating sexual harassment on public transport in the North-East of England”

In Students by General Account

I’m a PhD student in the Department of Sociology at Durham University. My doctoral research investigates sexual harassment on public transport in the North-East of England, with a view of identifying context-specific actions to reduce its perpetration and impact. The research uses a sequential mixed-methods approach, an online survey followed by Educational Empowerment Workshops with victim-survivors.

This research project is in collaboration with Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland, a local service providing support to women and girls who have experienced sexual violence. I’m a passionate volunteer in the sexual violence sector, where I’ve volunteered for over 4 years. I’m hoping this research will make a real-world change in the local community
