Description:

My research – a collaborative project with Newcastle City Council – is exploring how ongoing changes to the social security system in the UK (so-called ‘welfare reform) are affecting a small group of 19 working-age people who are in receipt of benefits. I am using a qualitative longitudinal methodology, interviewing people at two different times over the course of approximately 1 year, followed by a participant-drive photo elicitation (PDPE) sub-study. I will be exploring the ways in which these changes are experienced at the individual and household level, with a focus on health, wellbeing and food insecurity.
