Joe Ventress: “Using theories of joint action to understand, explain, and predict pedestrian yielding behaviours”

In Students by ninedtp

My work sits at the intersection of cognitive psychology, kinesiology, and pedestrian dynamics. I study how theories of joint action can explain and predict pedestrian yielding behaviours and might improve the defensibility and face validity of microscopic crowd simulation and agent-based models.

To do this, I use both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. I primarily work with motion capture systems to collect and analyse kinematic data. I also use python to handle and manipulate large 3D datasets to understand how pedestrians move with space with one another. More recently, I have used eye tracking methods to understand where attention is directed during pedestrian interactions.
