Heather Proctor: “The Role of the Arts and Political Memory in Forming Mixed Ethnic Identity”

In Students by General Account

My research examines the formation of mixed ethnicity in the UK and how these are influenced by artistic and cultural experiences, particularly in relation to political memory and transnational identities. This project is situated at the intersection of a number of disciplinary areas, including postcolonial and poststructuralist theory, cultural studies, critical IR, and memory studies. In researching how mixed identities are navigated within artistic discourses, I explore what this means for both our understanding of ethnicity and how we conceptualise belonging in relation to space and transnationalism. I am also a NINE DTP rep.
