Sabina Bllaca: “Supporting pupils with EAL in mainstream primary classrooms: how do teachers facilitate communication to enable progress within lessons?”

In Students by jvnf65

Description:

This research aims to explore interactions which promote progress within lessons for pupils with EAL by investigating how primary school teachers interact with their pupils to support learning and language acquisition in small group work. For this to be effectively realised, this research adopts a sociocultural perspective in viewing learning as a social process whereby social interactions are fundamental to cognitive development. The project is being conducted in collaboration with Wallsend St Peter’s Primary School, where I also work as a primary school teacher. The aim of this study has been broken down into the following objectives:
1. To inform policy and practice by enabling professionals to develop their pedagogic understanding regarding enabling progress for pupils with EAL.
2. To begin bridging attainment gaps by building understanding of what constitutes good practice in supporting the learning and attainment of pupils with EAL.
