My research explores how alternative models of peace and development in conflict-affected areas of Myanmar are challenging both the liberal orthodoxy of peacebuilding led by international donors and multilateral development agencies, as well as the statebuilding project of the Myanmar government. My thesis will present forms of indigenous peoples’ governance in conflict-affected areas that are centred around the preservation of tradition, culture and environment, and emphasise collective values.
I have over eight years of experience working with Myanmar civil society organizations, researching conflict, displacement, development and related human rights issues. In 2016 I co-founded the rights based research and advocacy organization, Progressive Voice.
