James McLeod: “A mixed methods study of the factors that influence engagement in physical activity for autistic adolescents”

In Students by General Account

The aim of my PhD is to take a mixed-methods and multi-informant approach to understand the factors that influence secondary school PE access and engagement for AYP as a means of understanding PA involvement. To achieve this aim, my project will include participatory methods with AYP who have lived experience of these issues, as well as collaboration with my external partner (North Yorkshire Sport) who have real-world practical experience of supporting these issues in schools and with young people. The project aims to have a strong applied focus, based on the lived experience of the autistic community. Ultimately, my research aims to inform future policy, influence pedagogical practices, shape interventions, and increase AYP’s engagement with PA.
