Research Summary:
I am a researcher from Palestine with a background in Law and an interest in criminology, conflict, and social change. Before entering academia, I worked as a lawyer and later in displacement camps during the war. These experiences gave me direct insight into the challenges faced by communities experiencing displacement, insecurity, and social transformation.
My proposed doctoral research examines how conflict, institutional disruption, displacement, and scarcity can contribute to the emergence of informal economies and new forms of internal criminal behaviour. Using qualitative research methods, including semi-structured interviews with key members of affected communities and other relevant stakeholders, the project explores how social order is reshaped when conventional systems of governance and social control are weakened.
Through this research, I hope to contribute to criminological understandings of crime in conflict-affected societies and to broader discussions of social recovery and justice in post-conflict settings.
